Overcoming perfection paralysis

How do you deal with perfection paralysis in your business?

I don’t know about you, but I grew up in a household that had very high expectations for me.

Perhaps your parents wanted the best for you and had a healthy sense of criticism. Maybe you went to a school that demanded excellence, or you started your career in corporate, where perfection was simply expected.

And while you played by those rules in those environments, now it’s just you, running your own business. And suddenly, perfectionism isn’t helping you—it’s stopping you.

That’s what I call perfection paralysis—the constant feeling that everything must be perfect before you take the next step, which ultimately keeps you from moving forward at all.

I have learned in my own business that perfection paralysis does not help you grow. In fact, it does the opposite. It keeps you small, keeps you waiting, keeps you stuck.

Here’s how you overcome perfection paralysis in your business and grow despite it:

Perfection Paralysis Is Stopping Your Growth

I see it all the time: brilliant, capable women delaying their next step because “it’s not ready yet.”

They’re thinking about getting ready to think about taking action—but first, the website has to be just right, the logo has to be finalized, the program has to be flawless before launching.

Sound familiar?

Here’s the thing: If you’re constantly striving for perfection before getting started, you’re going to procrastinate getting started at all.

So, what if you let go of the need for everything to be 100% perfect before you launch? What if you let go of self doubt, and committed to taking imperfect action instead?

Imperfect Action is the Key

Here’s what I propose: Instead of waiting for perfection, aim for 70% or 80% and get it out there first, knowing that you can always improve it later.

Perfection can still be something you value, but it should never be the thing that keeps you from starting.

Think about it…

  • If your new program isn’t launched, you can’t make money from it.
  • If your new website isn’t live, no one can discover you.
  • If your book isn’t written, no one can benefit from your wisdom.

But once you take imperfect action and get your work out there, you can always refine, improve, and perfect it as you go.

This is one of the most important mindset shifts we cultivate in our signature program. We don’t wait for perfect. We take action.

We believe in getting things into the hands of the people who need them now, rather than endlessly tweaking behind the scenes.

Because if it’s not in front of them, they don’t know that you exist. If your new program is not launched, you can’t make money from it, but you can perfect it later.

Taking the First Step

So, I want you to make a list of all of the ways that you are allowing perfection paralysis to get in the way.

Are there things you want to launch but haven’t because they’re not “ready” yet? Are there opportunities you’ve passed up because you felt like you needed to be more prepared?

Then, for each item on your list, ask yourself:

  • What’s the first step I can take toward launching this, even if it’s not perfect?
  • How can I approach this with an imperfect action mindset?
  • What would happen if I released this at 80%, knowing I can refine it later?

Breaking free from perfection paralysis is possible. It starts with one simple yet powerful mindset shift:
Done is better than perfect. Action creates momentum. Progress, not perfection.

You’ve got this. ❤️
